Job summary

Hopkins Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Special Education Paraprofessional to provide one-on-one and small-group support for students with academic and emotional behavioral needs. The role involves instructional support, behavior management, and communicating student successes to licensed staff to support programming.

Locations include Alice Smith Elementary, Eisenhower Elementary, Gatewood Elementary, Glen Lake Elementary, Meadowbrook Elementary, and Tanglen Elementary.

Qualifications

• Two years post-secondary education or a passing ParaPro score.
• One year of experience working with children.
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or in small groups to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by certified staff.
• Assists the certified staff in devising strategies for reinforcing learning based on students’ needs.
• Supervises students in instructional spaces, lunchroom, on field trips, and during bus transitions.
• Observes in the classroom and documents students’ academic and social behaviors.
• Connects with mainstream teachers regarding student progress.
• Implements curriculum modifications to help students access materials.
