Job summary

The Seattle YMCA is seeking a part-time BASE Instructor to guide elementary students through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on activities at a Y After-School Enrichment program. You’ll help teach teamwork and social-emotional skills in a safe, caring environment while encouraging skill building, creativity, physical activity, and fun.

Locations include Thurgood Marshall, Bailey Gatzert, and Sand Point. Shifts run school days, 6:45am start to school, and after school to 6pm.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older, 18 or older preferred.
• 1-2 years’ experience with children in camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
• Ability to model YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• Pre-employment TB tests and MMR vaccination; Concentra options available.
• Completion of minimum STARS training and CPR/First Aid Training.
• Cleared MERIT background check.

Responsibilities

• Implements culturally relevant activities aligned with YMCA Youth Development goals.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure health and safety.
• May guide staff/volunteers overseeing activities.
• Communicates with parents/guardians daily and confidentially.
• Follows YMCA policies including safety, abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Maintains site appearance and cleanliness; may serve snacks.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; other duties as assigned.
