Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an Electromechanical Technologist for the Explosive Application Laboratory, onsite in New Mexico. You will conduct data collection and testing on energetic systems, fabricate lab components, and operate high-precision diagnostics while upholding safety and security standards.

The role involves teamwork on multidisciplinary projects, the setup of prototype systems, and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with outdoor activity-level work.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q-level security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM field is desirable.
• Experience with lasers, high-temperature materials, plasma physics or related fields is preferred.
• Familiarity with data acquisition instrumentation; NI PXI hardware preferred.
• Electrical, mechanical, optical assembly and design skills.
• Machining experience to support prototype development and experiments.
• Proficiency with tools like SolidWorks, Diadem, LabVIEW, MATLAB, Zemax, Multisim, Utiliboard, or similar.
• Active DOE Q-level or DOD Top-Secret clearance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct data collection and measurements on a multi-disciplinary team.
• Devi se, fabricate, and assemble lab components or assemblies.
• Set up and test prototype units under operational conditions.
• Operate PDV data acquisition systems and related instrumentation.
• Analyze data and suggest test modifications to meet specs.
• Maintain lab equipment, calibration records, and inventories.
• Move and position heavy test fixtures and equipment.
• Build explosive assemblies and conduct explosive operations.
• Occasional travel and onsite work as required.
