Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, invites applications for an Early Career Electromechanical Technologist in the Z Machine facility. You will support the X-Ray Diagnostics & Experimental Systems team with field diagnostics, assembly, calibration, and data analysis for high energy density experiments.

This role focuses on fielding x-ray detectors, calibrations in the lab, and collaboration with engineers to implement new designs.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent is required.
• Experience working on intricate assembly, alignments, or preparation of scientific equipment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

• Field diagnostics in the Z Machine facility with a multi-disciplinary team to prepare, install, test and retrieve diagnostics.
• Assemble, configure, modify, refurbish and repair diagnostic instruments in the laboratory.
• Use measurement equipment to collect, process and analyze experimental data.
• Work with the engineering team to develop and implement new designs and modifications of diagnostics.
• Develop and Scan Film and Image Plate.
• Create and maintain documentation for diagnostic procedures and safety.
• Field electronic equipment such as digitizers, high-voltage pulsers, and delay generators for x-ray detectors.
• Perform calibrations of equipment in the lab before deploying to Z.
