Scope of Job: To provide journeyman level installation, maintenance, and serviceof electrical/electronic systems skills. Responsible for the promptperformance of assigned electrical/electronic and relatedduties.

Description of Duties:

• Runs conduit, pulls wire and installs circuits for electricallydriven units.
• Installs, maintains and repairs a wide variety of electricalsystems including, but not limited to, electrical motors,generators, circuit breakers, outlets, fixtures, fittings, conduit,wiring, timers, starters and all lighting.
• Performs electrical work as may related to air-conditioning orrefrigeration.
• May be required to perform manual labor such as digging orheavy lifting or other duties as required.
• May be required to carry a pager and be on call.
• Assists other trades in the performance of assignedduties.
• May be required to make changes and implementation of plansfrom working drawings.
• May coordinate efforts of electronic specialists when projectsrequire both skills.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received: Some specific instructions from a leader or other assignedsupervisor.

Supervision Given: May supervise apprentice electricians.

Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education: Vocational school electrical and electronic training.

Required Experience: Three (3) years of experience in electrical maintenance, repair, orinstallation.

Preferred Experience: More years of the above experience.

Equipment: Skill in the use of hand tools common to the electrical trade andthe use of meters and other test equipment. Use of refrigerationgauges, leak detectors, etc.

Working Conditions: Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties.Exposure to outside environments, hot, dry, wet, and cold; somework in restricted spaces, exposure to dust, some duties andworking conditions may create bodily strain and discomfort. Dutiesmay involve the lifting and moving of heavy objects, stooping,crawling, climbing, reaching, and other activities requiringphysical exertion. Danger of falls, electrical shock and burns, andhazards and conditions inherent to the trade or assignment. UTRGVis a distributed institution, which may require presence atmultiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
