Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY, seeks a Manager of Environmental Safety & Health to lead the Electrical Safety Program. You will serve as the Electrical Safety Officer, chair LESAC, and supervise three staff, guiding electrical safety across the lab.

You will ensure compliance with NFPA 70/70E and OSHA requirements, develop training, and provide technical leadership to Laboratory organizations. This onsite role reports to SHSD leadership and partners with divisions on safety issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in engineering, safety, health, or related technical area responsibilities.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.
• Experience safeguarding employees working on electrical equipment including Lockout/Tagout methods.
• Experience reading electrical schematics and distribution one-line diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the Electrical Safety Subject Area and related program documents.
• Review updates to electrical codes, standards, and federal requirements and update procedures accordingly.
• Serve as Laboratory Electrical Safety Officer and LESAC SME for electrical safety matters.
• Lead and mentor Electrical Safety Group staff in safe work practices.
• Chair LESAC and communicate requirements to leadership and the Electrical Authority Having Jurisdiction.
• Develop and deliver electrical safety training, briefings, and compliance resources.
• Conduct electrical safety surveillances, assessments, and track corrective actions to completion.
• Collaborate with departments to diagnose and resolve electrical safety issues, including Lockout/Tagout questions.
• Support safety aspects of planning, design, and modification of facilities and equipment.
• Assist with investigations and implement corrective actions.
