Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking a Manager, Environmental Safety & Health to lead its Electrical Safety Program onsite in Upton, NY. The role oversees the Electrical Safety Officer duties, LESAC, and a small team while ensuring compliance with NFPA 70/70E, OSHA safety rules, and DOE requirements.

The position drives training, policy implementation, and cross‑divisional collaboration to address electrical safety issues and improve overall laboratory safety performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in electrical safety or related area responsibilities.
• Knowledge of external electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.
• Knowledge of practices and procedures used to safeguard employees performing work on electrical equipment, including Lockout/Tagout.
• Experience developing immediate and long-term programmatic and field-based solutions for electrical safety.
• Experience reading electrical schematics and distribution one-line diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and administer the Electrical Safety Subject Area and program documents.
• Review updates to electrical codes, standards, and requirements; update procedures accordingly.
• Serve as the Laboratory Electrical Safety Officer and SME for electrical safety matters.
• Lead, supervise, coach, and mentor Electrical Safety Group staff.
• Chair LESAC and communicate requirements to leadership and the Electrical Authority Having Jurisdiction.
• Develop and deliver electrical safety training and compliance resources.
• Conduct electrical safety surveillances, assessments, and corrective actions.
• Partner with departments to diagnose and resolve electrical safety issues.
