Job summary

Edgewater Technical Associates seeks an Electrical Safety Officer (SME I) in Los Alamos, NM, to oversee the LANL Electrical Safety Program on-site, coordinating with project managers, craft, and field professionals to ensure safe work practices across multiple facilities.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 7 years of field experience, deep NFPA 70E knowledge, and strong communication skills to lead investigations, inspections, and safety policy development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 7 years of field experience.
• Advanced knowledge of NFPA 70E, IEEE, and OSHA electrical safety standards.
• Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications, such as low-voltage AC and DC systems.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to lead safety programs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
• Provide electrical safety support to construction projects and field teams.
• Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes with corrective actions.
• Perform workplace condition inspections to identify hazards.
• Lead reviews of IWDs and LOTO procedures.
• Contribute to codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety.
• Provide advanced support to engineers and scientists in solving technical problems.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety requirements across projects.
• Develop written electrical safety policies and procedures.
