Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking an Electrical Inspector for the Houston Permitting Center. You will enforce electrical codes, review plans, inspect installations, and issue notices to ensure compliance with electrical specifications.

You will meet with the public and contractors, maintain records, and assist with investigations of unpermitted work. Strong knowledge of electrical regulations and field teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED and up to 18 months of education in inspection area.
• Two years of journey level or skilled inspection experience required.
• Licenses: may require Texas driver's license; preferred Electrical - ICBO/IAEI/ICC Inspector certifications.
• Preference for Electrical Journeyman/Master License and related certifications.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate enforcement of electrical codes and plans; perform inspections of electrical systems.
• Investigate unpermitted electrical work and issue citations or seek supervisory guidance.
• Maintain records, review plans, and respond to inquiries from the public and contractors.
• Engage with contractors, professionals and businesses to resolve technical issues.
