Job summary

City of Houston—Houston Permitting Center's Electrical Inspection Section seeks an Electrical Inspector to enforce electrical codes, review plans, perform inspections, identify unpermitted work and coordinate with the public, contractors and professionals to resolve issues.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED with up to 18 months training, two years of journey-level inspection experience, and a Texas driver's license; ICBO/IAEI Inspector certification preferred to be obtained

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with up to 18 months training in inspection.
• Two years of journey-level or skilled inspection experience required.
• Preferred electrical certification (ICBO/IAEI) to be obtained within 11 months.

Responsibilities

• Enforce codes, ordinances and technical specs for electrical systems.
• Inspect electrical installations and identify unpermitted work.
• Coordinate with the public, contractors and professionals to resolve issues.
• Perform record keeping, plan reviews and documentation.
• Prepare correction notices and refer to supervisory staff when needed.
