Job summary

City of Houston seeks an Electrical Inspector within the Houston Permitting Center's Electrical Inspection Section to enforce electrical codes, review plans, and perform inspections. The role includes investigating unpermitted work, issuing notices, meeting with the public and contractors, and maintaining records.

Applicants need a High School Diploma or GED and an Electrical Journeyman or Master license, plus Texas driver license.

Qualifications

Requires a High School Diploma or GED and up to 18 months of education or training in the area of inspection.
Two (2) years of journey level or skilled experience related to the area of inspection to be performed are required.
The following certificates/licenses are preferred to be obtained within 11 months of employment in the area of inspection: Electrical - ICBO or IAEA Inspector's Certificate.
Require a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Must possess an Electrical Journeyman license or Master Electrical License.

Responsibilities

Coordinate enforcement of electrical codes, ordinances and specs to ensure conformance with plans.
Investigate unpermitted electrical work and issue citations or seek supervisory assistance.
Perform electrical inspections and respond to inquiries from public, contractors and businesses.
Maintain filing systems, reports and documentation.
Research electrical plans and drawings and provide corrective recommendations.
