Job summary

City of Houston seeks a Journey-Level Inspector to ensure construction meets local and national codes. You will inspect mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or structural systems and provide written feedback, keeping logs and photos, and issuing violations under supervision.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and two years of journey-level experience in inspection; a Texas driver’s license may be required along with ICBO or related certificates.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two (2) years of journey-level or skilled inspection experience.
• May require a valid Texas driver’s license.
• Certified in multiple inspection trades as listed.

Responsibilities

• Inspect mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or structural systems for code compliance.
• Provide written feedback and maintain records, photos, and violation notices.
• Monitor construction sites for code compliance and interact with the public and contractors.
• Review plans, specifications, and drawings; prepare technical reports.
