Job summary

The City of Lansing seeks an Electrical Inspector in the Building Safety division to ensure properties comply with Michigan Residential Code, National Electrical Code, and related state standards. This role applies code provisions, reviews plans, issues permits and conducts field inspections for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six years as a Journeyman electrician or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a Journeyman or Master Electrician license.

Responsibilities

• Review applications for electrical permits to ensure plans conform to codes.
• Issue permits and perform field inspections per permits.
• Conduct residential electrical inspections for new homes, additions, remodels and repairs.
• Fire alarm plan review and inspections.
• Advise owners on necessary code corrections.
• On-call for city agencies as needed.
• Check blueprints and maintain operating records.
