Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Mechanical Estimator with 3+ years of experience in non-residential construction to prepare preliminary budgets and detailed estimates for small to mid-size projects.

You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, price units, solicit subcontractor bids, and contribute to bid packages while coordinating with internal teams. Proficiency in cost data, reading specs, and Excel is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical construction estimating
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical abilities
• Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• Solid knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Proficiency in mathematical calculations (fractions, percentages, ratios, prorations)
• Solid drafting skills
• Strong Excel and Word skills
• Knowledge of estimating software such as Quick Pen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software

Responsibilities

• Analyze drawings and use applicable software to perform material take-offs and provide unit cost pricing
• Perform basic red-lining of documents as needed
• Assist with developing bid package estimates and track quantity changes
• Solicit subcontractor bids and coordinate with vendors for quotes
• Review RFPs, Basis of Design and drawings to determine scope and contents of estimates
• Present information and respond to questions from internal departments
