Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare preliminary budgets and concept estimates for small to mid-size projects. The role involves analyzing drawings, performing material take-offs, and pricing with relevant software.

You will review RFPs and scope, coordinate with subcontractors, and present findings to internal teams. A bachelor’s in CM/Engineering or equivalent training is preferred with 3 years of estimating experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in construction management or engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical construction estimating.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid analytical skills and cost data interpretation.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.
• Solid knowledge of construction costs and principles.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations (fractions, percentages, ratios).
• Drafting skills and proficiency with Excel and Word.
• Experience with Quick Pen Auto Bid and Sheet Metal estimating tools.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes drawings and uses software to perform material take-offs for estimates.
• Produces unit cost pricing and performs basic red-lining of documents.
• Assists with bid package updates, tracks quantities, and resolves discrepancies.
• Solicits subcontractor bids and coordinates with vendors for quotes.
• Reviews RFPs, Basis of Design and drawings to determine scope and contents.
• Present information and respond to questions from internal departments.
