Job summary

Spees Design Build is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the EE team and support federal projects across healthcare, education, data centers, and mission-critical facilities in the United States.

You will lead design efforts, supervise junior engineers, perform power system studies, and ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, UFC, and VA criteria while coordinating with disciplines to deliver on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 7-10 years' experience in electrical construction design (lighting/power/systems)
• Professional Engineering licensure in good standing
• Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting and life safety systems
• Project management experience for small and medium sized projects
• Strong computer knowledge of MS Office and AutoCAD or REVIT, and electrical design software such as ETAP, Easypower, SKM
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven track record of making decisions under pressure and delivering on commitments
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, UFC, VA criteria, IEEE, BICSI
• Team-oriented mindset with collaborative culture

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for healthcare, higher education, data centers, mission-critical facilities, and federal facilities
• Direct Projects and Junior Engineers in design and specification tasks
• Perform voltage drop, short-circuit, over-current protection coordination, and arc-flash studies
• Oversee grounding and lightning protection systems
• Design lighting systems, layouts, equipment selection, and photometric analysis
• Handle low-voltage systems including telecommunications, fire alarm, security, nurse call, BMS, DDC
• Ensure compliance with energy codes and standards
• Coordinate with senior electrical staff and other disciplines
• Provide project management for small/medium projects to deliver on time and budget
• Perform construction administration such as submittals and RFIs
• Lead field investigations and coordinate with construction teams
• Prepare reports, drawings, specifications for accuracy
• Maintain client relationships through effective communication
• Represent SDB in meetings and industry activities
• Ensure designs comply with codes and standards
