Job summary

Berkeley Lab is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer or Electrical Engineer to support or lead electrical infrastructure activities for the ALS-U upgrade. The role spans design, installation, testing, and commissioning of AC distribution, cable routing, grounding, and related systems.

The candidate will use CAD/E-CAD tools, apply NEC and lab standards, and contribute to documentation, reviews, and cross-functional coordination with engineers, technicians, and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 2+ years experience; or Master's with 1+ year; or equivalent.
• Experience with AC distribution, cable tray/raceway systems, grounding, electrical equipment installation, cable routing, or cable plant infrastructure.
• Ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics, drawings, layouts, and cable routing plans.
• Experience supporting electrical system testing, integration, troubleshooting, or commissioning.
• Experience supporting contractor or subcontractor electrical design and installation activities.
• Experience with CAD tools; Creo Parametric preferred.
• Ability to work on diverse projects and resolve routine engineering problems with guidance.
• Familiarity with procurement processes, QA, inspection, and configuration-management processes.
• Experience in a research lab, national lab, accelerator, or complex technical environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support electrical design and installation planning for complex systems.
• Develop and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and BOMs.
• Apply NEC and LBNL/ALS/ALS-U standards to design and installation activities.
• Use CAD/E-CAD tools to develop electrical designs and documentation.
• Coordinate design reviews and resolve issues with technicians and engineers.
• Review contractor documentation and monitor installation conformity.
• Assist with testing, integration, and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Support project planning, material requirements, and procurement documentation.
