Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory seeks an experienced Senior Electrical CAD Designer to support the ALS-U project. The role translates engineering concepts into detailed, manufacturing-ready electrical designs and documentation, with on-site work in Berkeley, CA.

Responsibilities include creating schematics, BOMs, and cable schedules while collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure proper integration and compliance with project standards.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design, or a related technical discipline; an equivalent combination may be considered.
• At least five years of professional experience producing electrical CAD designs.
• Proficiency with one or more electrical design platforms (AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor, KiCad, or similar).
• Experience producing manufacturing-ready electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, wire lists, or cable schedules.
• Experience maintaining revision-controlled engineering documentation in PLM or PDM environments.
• Knowledge of electrical components, schematic development, drafting conventions, and wiring practices.
• Familiarity with industry standards and codes for electrical design and documentation.
• Ability to interpret engineering concepts, redlines, specs, and design-review comments.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and related CAD models.
• Develop detailed electrical documentation supporting manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, testing, installation and commissioning.
• Prepare and maintain bills of materials, wire lists, cable schedules, and assembly documentation.
• Translate concepts into complete, manufacturable design packages.
• Review and revise drawings based on feedback and approved changes.
• Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams to ensure design integration.
• Participate in design coordination meetings and technical reviews.
• Maintain organized CAD files, libraries, and revision-controlled documentation.
• Manage engineering documentation in Windchill or other PLM/PDM systems.
• Ensure compliance with industry codes, procedures, and quality requirements.
• Protect proprietary and procurement-sensitive information.
