Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California is seeking an experienced Electrical CAD Designer to provide electrical design and engineering documentation support for the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) project.

The successful candidate will work with electrical and mechanical engineers, project managers, manufacturing teams and other technical staff to transform concepts into manufacturable designs and detailed documentation; on-site work is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience producing electrical CAD designs.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, KiCad, or equivalent electrical CAD/design software.
• Experience producing manufacturing-ready electrical documentation: electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, wire & cable schedules.
• Experience maintaining revision-controlled engineering documentation using PLM or PDM systems.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain detailed electrical CAD models, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using project-approved CAD software.
• Develop electrical designs that translate engineering concepts to manufacturable products.
• Utilize software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor, KiCad, or other LBNL-approved CAD platforms.
• Review, update, and revise designs based on engineering feedback, design reviews, and approved changes.
• Prepare manufacturing-ready electrical documentation to support fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing.
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers, project managers, manufacturing personnel, and other stakeholders.
