Job summary
Caterpillar is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to join the Electric Power Division in supporting design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with teams from concept to commissioning.
Responsibilities include retrofitting projects, converting legacy PLC programs, and developing PLC/HMI applications using standard templates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with automation and controls, including PLC-based systems, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Willingness to travel 35–50% and support DoD SkillBridge where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope, and support proposal development with Dealer and Factory teams.
- Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator paralleling control systems.
- Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
- Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
- Collaborate with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
- Provide technical support to Sales and Product Support teams and escalate when needed.
- Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses promptly.
- Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
