Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in the United States seeks an Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems within the Electric Power Division.

You will deliver automation solutions for complex power systems from concept through commissioning, collaborating with customers and cross-functional teams. Responsibilities include design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV control systems; converting legacy PLCs; developing PLC and HMI applications; and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience with automation and controls including PLC-based systems, HMIs, and DCS.
• Ability to read electrical schematics/blueprints.
• Willingness to travel 35–50% (US-based).

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope and support proposals.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessment and support field performance.
• Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses timely.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams.
