Job description

Location: Austin, TX

Compensation: $135,000-$165,000

Relocation: Comprehensive relocation assistance will be provided for non-locals.

About the Opportunity

We are supporting a rapidly scaling data center company that is hiring a Designer & Detailer covering electrical and controls into its Modular team.

This team designs and builds factory-produced data center modules, taking gigawatt-scale infrastructure out of site-built construction and into repeatable manufacturing. The business delivers capacity in months rather than years, and that only works if the drawing package is good enough for a shop to build from without picking up the phone.

That is the job. You will produce installation-level electrical and controls packages that fabricators and electricians build straight from, with panels, raceway, cable schedules and terminations fully detailed and nothing left to field interpretation.

The standards side matters as much as the output. You will own the symbol libraries, templates and BOM structures that make every unit faster to detail than the last, and when a question comes in from the floor you will fix the template that caused it rather than just the sheet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce the detailed electrical and controls models and drawings the factory builds from, covering panels, raceway, cable schedules and terminations
  • Detail to installation level: conduit and cable tray runs, panel layouts, wiring diagrams and BOM-linked parts accurate enough for the shop to order and build directly from the package
  • Turn engineering changes into updated, released packages within days, with revisions tracked cleanly so nobody builds from a stale sheet
  • Build and maintain the standards, symbol libraries and templates that make the next unit faster to detail than the last
  • Close out drawing issues at source by fixing the template or standard that caused the question
  • Absorb rapid engineering changes across in-flight units without breaking configuration control
  • Standardize the design system and BOM structures so every unit is quicker to detail and build than the one before
What We're Looking For
  • Experience detailing electrical or controls packages for fabrication or modular assemblies, gained in a panel shop, UL 508A builder or industrial automation integrator
  • Daily working command of an electrical CAD platform, with wiring diagrams and cable schedules as regular output rather than an occasional task
  • Ability to produce drawing packages that shops and electricians build from without needing to call, and the instinct to change the underlying template when they do
  • Experience building and curating symbol libraries and templates rather than only consuming them
  • Ability to handle revision storms without version chaos, so the released package is always the one being built
  • Practical understanding of how things get installed, including bend radii, terminations and the clearances electricians actually need, reflected in the drawings
  • Strong understanding of how detailing decisions affect buildability, procurement and installation time
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where decisions often need to be made quickly
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to resolve queries from the shop floor clearly and quickly

The above is a starting point rather than a checklist. If you do not fit the role exactly but can point to where you would, that is worth a conversation.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable:

  • AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
  • Plant and BIM modeling (Revit or Plant 3D)
  • Panel and wiring diagram standards
  • BIM coordination
  • Modular or prefabricated manufacturing
  • Industrial automation and controls integration
  • High-growth or startup environments
The Human

This role is best suited to a detailer who takes pride in a package nobody has to ring up about.

You should enjoy being close to production, talking directly with the people building the product and solving problems as they happen rather than reviewing them weeks later from behind a desk.

You do not need to have come from a data center background.

What matters is that you understand your technical area, can work effectively in a manufacturing environment and are comfortable taking ownership of problems from identification through resolution.

The environment is fast-paced, highly ambitious and execution-focused. The successful candidate will play a critical role in turning engineering intent into a package the factory can build from as the operation scales.
