Job description

Electrical CAD Designer – Control Panels

Up to $85,000 Base Salary • Greater Milwaukee Area • Direct-Hire

  • PAY & ADVANCEMENT: Up to $85,000 base salary (commensurate with drafting velocity and panel layout depth) + company-matched retirement plan + full healthcare benefits package.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Rapidly expanding controls and automation partner operating out of a newly acquired 6,000 sq. ft. UL panel production facility in the Greater Milwaukee area; agile, zero-bureaucracy culture.
  • SOFTWARE STACK: Practical CAD software mastery; high preference for AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, E-Plan, or Sky-Plan.
  • PROJECT SCOPE: Multi-page electrical drawing packages, power distribution schematics, and physical panel layouts for robotic cells, high-speed sortation conveyors, and custom automation.
  • REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY: 5+ years with a custom machine builder or automation integrator; US Citizen or Green Card holder; residence within a 45-minute daily commute of the facility.

For an Electrical CAD Designer who thrives on technical variety and rapid execution, this direct-hire seat provides an exceptional environment to expand your automation knowledge. The employer is a dynamic, highly agile controls partner experiencing rapid regional expansion due to surging demand for smart warehouse, factory floor, and automated solutions. To support their growth, they have expanded into an additional, freshly purchased 6,000 sq. ft. UL panel production facility.

The company rejects rigid corporate silos and glass ceilings. One week you might map out a software-to-hardware interface, and the next you'll dive deep into a comprehensive electrical layout for a multi-axis robotic cell. You will be part of a collaborative, zero-bureaucracy team alongside top automation professionals, backed by a comprehensive corporate benefits package, a company-matched retirement plan, and a rock-solid project pipeline.

What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)
  • Generate Schematics & Panel Layouts: Create, modify, and finalize robust electrical schematics, 3-phase power distribution diagrams, and control panel enclosure layouts for high-complexity custom automation projects.
  • Drive Large Drawing Packages: Manage and complete large-scale drawing sets (frequently 20–50+ pages) with a sharp focus on drafting speed, spatial accuracy, and detail consistency.
  • Map Physical System Architectures: Translate physical system hardware—including multi-axis robotic cells, material handling conveyor loops, and specialized test rigs—into clean, functional CAD drawings.
  • Collaborate with Panel Builders & Engineers: Partner closely with shop assembly techs and controls engineers to verify bill of materials (BOM) specs and ensure component callouts align with real-world builds.
  • Design for Panel Shop Efficiency: Apply practical panel building knowledge to design electrical layouts that facilitate rapid, clean wiring and logical wire-trough routing on the production floor.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
  • 5+ Years Electrical Design Experience: Verifiable track record drafting and engineering industrial electrical schematics for panel fabrication and automated machinery controls.
  • Automation Integrator Background: 5+ years working directly for a custom machine builder, robotics integrator, panel shop, or material handling OEM.
  • CAD Software Fluency: Demonstrated speed and efficiency in standard CAD tools, with hands-on proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, E-Plan, or Sky-Plan strongly valued.
  • Drafting Velocity & Accuracy: High drafting output speed and focus, with a natural ability to execute complete drawing packages rapidly without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Location & Authorization: US Citizen or Green Card holder residing within a comfortable 45-minute daily driving radius of the Greater Milwaukee area.
Preferred Technical Assets (Bonus Skills)
  • UL 508A Standards: Practical working knowledge of UL 508A control panel design criteria and NFPA 79 industrial machinery electrical standards.
  • BOM Generation: Hands-on experience generating detailed parts lists and bills of materials directly within CAD software for procurement import.
  • Panel Assembly Experience: Prior hands-on experience wiring or assembling industrial control panels on a shop floor.
