Job description

Electrical Designer - Controls - Own the schematics that run the line
Design the brains behind real-world automation

You turn functional requirements into rock-solid electrical control designs – the schematics, panels, and details that make machines come alive safely and reliably.

In this role, you’re the one translating specs into clean drawings, smart layouts, and bulletproof bills of material that keep projects on time, on budget, and up to standard.

You’ll be the go-to CAD and ePlan expert, shaping base designs, standards, and libraries that everyone else builds on.

Your work will show up on the plant floor every day – in every panel, every wire label, every enclosure cutout.

If you live in AutoCAD or ePlan and love building control designs that just work, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Work On

You’ll own electrical design for machine and process control systems from spec to shop-ready package:

  • Machine and process control system designs
  • 2D and 3D control panel and enclosure layouts
  • Electrical schematics and wiring documentation
  • Bills of material and parts selection
  • Standardized ePlan base designs and macros
  • UL-compliant designs and certifications
  • Panel shop automation documentation and reports
  • CAD tools, databases, and design standards

You’ll work directly in tools like AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and ePlan to create production-ready designs and reusable standards.

Your challenge: turn customer requirements into clear, buildable control designs that meet codes, standards, and shop realities – every time.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Create 2D and 3D drawings of enclosures for integration projects
  • Develop and maintain base ePlan designs as starting points for projects
  • Act as the subject matter expert for CAD tools used in electrical design
  • Design panel build projects from concept through detailed documentation
  • Assist the engineering team with creation of parts and macros
  • Verify schematics are aligned with current internal design standards
  • Recommend design approaches and options to electrical engineers during scope and initial design
  • Select parts and components from standard listings based on engineer specifications
  • Manage the ePlan database by developing parts and standards
  • Understand and maintain UL standards and certifications in your designs
  • Create reports for panel shop automation, including wire routing, specs, labels, device tags, and enclosure cutouts
  • Ensure all designs conform to engineering and safety standards while managing your workload and communicating clearly with the project team
What We're Looking For
  • Two-year degree or related technical certificate and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of related experience and/or education/training in electrical design with emphasis on controls
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or ePlan
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills: listening, questioning, and speaking
  • Proven time management and ability to prioritize work effectively
  • Detail orientation with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to interpret written information and work both independently and in team problem-solving situations
  • Basic financial and mathematical understanding (markup, margin, discounts)
  • Clear writing skills for reports and email communication
The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention

You’ve been the controls design backbone on multiple projects, not just drafting but helping shape how designs are standardized, automated, and improved over time. You’re comfortable owning the ePlan environment, building parts libraries, and driving panel shop efficiency with smart documentation.

You think like a builder and a designer – you see how the panel will be wired, labeled, and cut out while you’re still at the screen, and you design accordingly.

Why This Opportunity?

This is not a redline-only drafting seat – you’ll shape standards, templates, and databases that impact every controls project that leaves the building.

You’ll be trusted as the CAD and ePlan SME, influencing how the team designs, documents, and automates panel builds.

Your work directly supports customer projects and the panel shop, giving you a clear line of sight from your screen to finished hardware.
