Job summary

JM Test Systems seeks an Electrical Apprenticeship Instructor to teach apprentice electrician curriculum and safety practices across field jobs.The role involves training journeymen, apprentices, and trades in NFPA 70E and HECP procedures while traveling to customer sites and maintaining complex electrical systems.

You will report to the Business Operations Director and work with the corporate training team; strong safety focus and teaching passion are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 10 years as a journey-level electrician, or completion of a state or federally registered apprenticeship plus 7 years journey-level experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as an electrical apprenticeship instructor.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E, hazardous energy control, and high-voltage switching/clearance procedures.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to travel, drive, stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the craft: Instruct apprentice electrician curriculum—theory, installation, troubleshooting, and safety.
  • Build a safety culture by training journeymen, apprentices, mechanics, machinists, and others in NFPA 70E and HECP procedures.
  • Mentor in the field: work one-on-one with apprentices on real electrical tasks and ensure on-the-job learning is consistently taught and evaluated.
  • Keeps systems running safely: maintain, test, repair, and troubleshoot complex electrical/electronic systems; perform high-voltage switching under safe clearance procedures as a certified switchman.
  • Keep records current: update schematics, drawings, diagrams, and calibration/test/maintenance records.

JobSummary — The Opportunity

The next generation of electricians learns best from peoplewho have done the work. As our Electrical Apprenticeship Instructor, you'llpass on the theory, hands-on skills, and safety habits that turn apprenticesinto confident, capable journey-level electricians.

In this role, you will teach the required apprenticeshipcurriculum and train journeymen, apprentices, and other trades in NFPA 70Eelectrical safe work practices and Hazardous Energy Control Program (HECP)procedures. You'll travel across the customer's system, working one on one withapprentices in the field to make sure their on-the-job learning is taught andevaluated consistently. Reporting to our Business Operations Director, you'llalso put your own skills to work maintaining and troubleshooting complexelectrical systems.

KeyResponsibilities & Outcomes
  • Teach thecraft. Instruct all required apprentice electrician curriculum, coveringtheory, installation, troubleshooting, and safety.
  • Build asafety culture. Train journeymen, apprentices, mechanics, machinists, andother trades in NFPA 70E safe work practices and HECP procedures, inpartnership with the electrical safety program.
  • Mentor inthe field. Work one on one with apprentices on real electrical tasks, ensuring on-the-job learning is instructed and evaluated consistently acrossthe system.

  • Keeprecords current. Update schematics, drawings, and diagrams, and maintaincalibration test and preventive maintenance records.
  • Stayorganized on the road. Plan your weekly schedule with customers, logactivity in the CRM, submit expense, mileage, and activity reports on time, andjoin weekly huddles with directors and the corporate training team.

  • Required:High school diploma or GED.
  • Required:10 years as a journey-level electrician, or completion of a state orfederally registered apprenticeship plus 7 years of journey-level experience.
