Job summary

HECO Inc. in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a skilled mechanical technician to dismantle AC/DC motors up to 15,000HP and 13,800V, document findings, and prepare tablet-based job packets for full project records.

You will assemble, align, and test repaired units to meet specifications, and perform electrical and mechanical testing using the listed instruments, recording data and ensuring adherence to customer standards and QA procedures.

Job description

A day in this role. Morning starts with a teardown: you’ll dismantle AC and DC electric motors, carefully documenting every finding as you inspect components across sizes through 15,000HP and 13,800v. Precision measurements with micrometers guide part evaluations, while you note clearances and conditions right into tablet-based job packets. Next Comes Assembly And Test. You’ll Rebuild To Spec, Align And Verify Fits, Then Move To The Test Area To Validate Performance And Insulation Integrity. You Will Use The Following Instruments And Systems As Part Of Your Routine

• Meggers
• Low OHM Meters
• Micrometers
• AC/DC Test Panels
• Hi-Potential (HiPot) Tester
• Surge Comparison Tester
• Bar to Bar Tester

Throughout, you’ll adhere to all Customer requirements and specifications, ensuring workmanship, compliance, and traceability. All readings/measurements are documented in tablet-based job packets for full project records. This position reports to the Mechanic Team Leader and works closely with peers across the shop to deliver reliable motors back to our customers.
