Job summary

HECO Inc. in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a hands-on Motor Technician to dismantle and inspect large AC/DC motors, up to 15,000HP and 13,800V, using precision metrology and tablet-based reporting.

You will assemble, align, and test repaired units to spec, perform electrical and mechanical testing with the listed instruments, and document all measurements for full project records. You will report to the Mechanic Team Leader and work with peers to deliver reliable motors back to customers.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with motor replacement/maintenance.
• Experience with mechanical testing and precision measurement.
• Manual machining skills preferred.

Responsibilities

A day in this roleMorning starts with a teardown: you’ll dismantle AC and DC electric motors, carefully documenting every finding as you inspect components across sizes through 15,000HP and 13,800v. Precision measurements with micrometers guide part evaluations, while you note clearances and conditions right into tablet-based job packets.Next comes assembly and test. You’ll rebuild to spec, align and verify fits, then move to the test area to validate performance and insulation integrity.
