Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Line Mechanic at varying progression levels to install, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution facilities around the Charleston, WV area. The role requires readiness to progress from D to higher classifications with direct or immediate supervision.

Applicants must reside within 45 minutes of the North Charleston Service Center and obtain the CDL beginner permit within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid state driver’s license is required; must obtain CDL beginner’s permit within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities.
• Demonstrate ability to perform ground person duties under supervision.
• Load/unload and handle poles, towers, structures; assist with equipment operation per progression.
• Operate, test and inspect de-energized lines and equipment; progress to energized work under supervision as skill grows.
• Maintain safety, housekeeping and records; read meters and complete apprentice cards as required.
• Progress through line mechanic levels (D-A) with increasing responsibilities under supervision.
