Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Line Mechanic C in the Texas service territory. The role involves installing, maintaining, and inspecting overhead and underground electrical facilities and learning progression from C-100 through C-400 classifications.

The position requires high school diploma or GED, a valid Class A CDL, and experience in distribution power line work. Regular overtime and on-call shifts are expected, with opportunities for advancement within the Line Mechanic family.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year distribution electrical power line work experience or related line experience.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures and other equipment.
• Perform work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under supervision; assist with up to 600 volts under higher supervision.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable; splice and terminate URD cable and troubleshoot energized lines.
• Use volt meters, amp meters, ground meggers and other electrical test equipment up to 600 volts.
• Progress from direct supervision to immediate supervision as skill level dictates.
• Direct the work of employees assigned to assist; complete Monthly Apprentice Cards.
