Job summary

Xcel Energy offers an internship in Electric Distribution Standards with a May 24, 2027 start date. The intern will research equipment, analyze materials, and assist engineers in manual development and fault analysis, contributing to distribution system standards across eight states.

The program requires full-time summer availability and in-person commuting to designated locations under a hybrid policy, with eligibility for benefits and potential extension based on performance.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy

Responsibilities

• Research and write white papers on equipment with detailed technical information such as: number of operations, insulating material, compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IEEE, ASTM, ANSI), physical size for future distribution system (FAN/Grid Modernization)
• Analyze current equipment for manufacture equivalent material as compared to incumbent materials. Multiple sources for functionally equivalent material
• Assist Xcel Energy engineers with Design and Construction Manual development
• Assist Xcel Energy engineers with faulty material analysis and solution research
