Job summary

Greenville Utilities Commission is seeking an Electric Distribution Engineer in Greenville, NC. The role focuses on operating and maintaining transmission and distribution systems and coordinating with peers to ensure reliable service.

Responsibilities include budgeting support, material and equipment reviews, switching orders, project scheduling, and customer issue resolution. Strong applicant should have a 5+ year engineering background and a valid driver's license; PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain existing distribution and transmission facilities; construct new facilities.
• Coordinate department operations with head and other engineers.
• Assist in annual budgets and 5-year plans.
• Provide maintenance budget estimates for overhead/underground lines and lighting.
• Review and approve new materials and equipment for facilities.
• Prepare and review switching orders as needed.
• Assist in development of engineering schedules for projects.
• Review billable work orders and resolve customer charge questions.
• Assist in resolving customer problems and complaints.
• Rotate standby duties with other engineers.
• Lead repairs after storms or outages; participate in emergency responses.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by department head.

Salary Range: $114, 108.80 - $181,417.60

Anticipated Hiring Range: $114, 108.80 - $147,700.80

Brief Description

Under general direction, performs highly responsible engineering and technical staff work, and supervisory duties in directing and coordinating the operation of the electric transmission and distribution systems; Performs after hour standby duty at the engineering level ; Performs related work as required.

Minimum Requirements

• Over five years of experience
• Bachelor's Degree
• Valid Driver's License

Preferred Requirements

• Professional Engineering License

Job Responsibilities

• Operation and maintenance of the existing distribution and transmission line facilities and the construction of new facilities.
• Work closely with the department head and other staff engineers to ensure that department operations are coordinated.
• Assist the department head in the development of the department's annual budget and long-range work plans (five-year).
• Provide budget estimates for maintenance related to overhead and underground services and facilities, overhead distribution lines, transmission lines, and street and area lighting.
• Responsible for review, evaluation, and approval of all new materials, hardware, and equipment utilized in the construction of transmission and distribution facilities.
• Prepare or assist in the preparation, review, and execution of switching orders as required.
• Assist the Distribution Planning Engineer with the development of engineering and construction timetables and schedules for project implementation.
• Review billable work orders and resolve questions relative to customer charges.
• Assist in the resolution of customer problems and complaints.
• Rotate standby responsibilities with other staff engineers.
• Lead and participate in the repairs of GUC electrical system following storms or other disruptions of electrical service.
• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the department head.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 7 am - 4 pm or 8 am - 5 pm
