Position: Elderly Activity Specialist

Supervisor: Elderly Program Manager

Division: Community Services Administration

Department: Social Services

Responsibilities:

The Elderly Activity Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supporting activities and services that promote the health, safety, social engagement, and overall well-being of Elder Center participants. Under direct supervision, the positions plans, organizes, and facilitates activities aligned with the established goals and needs of the Elder Program, while providing compassionate, professional, and reliable assistance to elders and their families. The Elderly Activity Specialist helps maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, provides appropriate instruction and guidance during program activities, and maintains the confidentiality of all privileged and sensitive information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

• Plan, organize, and facilitate recreational, educational, cultural, wellness, and social activities based on elders’ interests and needs.
• Develop and implement individualized activity plans that respect elders’ cognitive, physical, and emotional abilities, and adapt activities as needed to accommodate changing health conditions.
• Recognize and report signs of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with mandatory reporting laws and organizational policy.
• Monitor participant safety, provide appropriate instruction and assistance, and respond to concerns or emergencies according to established procedures.
• Assist elders in identifying available tribal, health, and social-service resources; make referrals through the appropriate channels.
• Conduct authorized home visits to assess general well-being and communicate observed concerns to the supervisor or appropriate service provider.
• Coordinate activities and services with tribal departments, community programs, vendors, and families to support effective service delivery.
• Maintain confidential participant files, attendance records, activity documentation, notices, and reports required by management or funding sources.
• Communicate program information clearly and respectfully while providing culturally sensitive service to elders, families, staff, and community partners.
• Assist with program evaluations, supply tracking, and activity-related budget documentation as assigned.
• Perform other job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR THE POSITION:

• Knowledge of elder services, activity planning, basic nutrition principles, and community resources.
• Ability to recognize concerns, exercise sound judgment, manage stressful situations, and follow emergency procedures.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive participant and program information.
• Proficiency with standard office equipment and Microsoft Word, Excel. PowerPoint, email, and electronic records.
• Cultural awareness of sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs, customs, and way of life.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, social workers, dietitians, and family caregivers.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This position does carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications: H.S. Diploma/GED, associate’s degree with 3-5 years of related experience, which includes two years supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
