Job summary

School City of East Chicago is seeking an English Language Learner Coordinator to lead the district’s EL program, provide instructional leadership, and support EL students with sheltered instruction and ELP outcomes.

The role calls for collaboration with teachers and administration to plan ESL literacy strategies, monitor compliance, and deliver professional development on sheltered instruction, WIDA-aligned assessment, and EL service delivery, with strong Spanish-English communication.

Qualifications

• Indiana teaching license with Bilingual and/or a TESOL endorsement (Preferred)
• Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (Preferred)
• Indiana Department of Education Administrative Licensure (Preferred)
• Minimum of five years teaching experience in a public school setting (Required)
• Experience in developing and/or in delivering English Second Language teacher training is (Preferred)
• Communicate effectively in Spanish and English both verbally and in writing (Required)

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching teachers to apply effective teaching tools to increase EL student achievement.
• Provide direct leadership and assist teachers in addressing diverse EL needs.
• Assist teachers with assessment approaches to differentiate instruction for ELs.
• Lead professional development on sheltered instruction for EL students.
• Develop ESL literacy strategies and assessment tools with staff and administrators.
• Coordinate annual language proficiency testing and ILP documentation.
• Monitor compliance with federal/state EL laws and reporting requirements.
• Communicate with parents about EL status and program information.
