Job summary

School City of East Chicago is seeking an English Language Learner Coordinator to lead the district’s EL K-12 program from the Administration Building. The role ensures compliance with state and federal EL requirements and provides guidance to staff on effective sheltered instruction methods.

The incumbent will coordinate ESL literacy strategies, lead professional development for EL staff, and act as the district contact for state EL matters.

Qualifications

• Indiana teaching license with bilingual and/or a TESOL endorsement (Preferred)
• Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (Preferred)
• Indiana Department of Education Administrative Licensure (Preferred)
• Minimum of five years teaching experience in a public school setting (Required)
• Experience in developing and/or delivering English Second Language teacher training (Preferred)
• Communicate effectively in Spanish and English both verbally and in writing (Required)

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching to teachers to apply effective tools and practices for EL students to raise achievement.
• Provide direct leadership and assist teachers to address diverse EL learner needs.
• Use ongoing assessments to differentiate instruction for ELs.
• Guide ESL literacy strategies and assessment tools for EL programs.
• Oversee professional development on sheltered instruction for EL students.
• Coordinate title III activities and language proficiency testing processes.
