The ideal candidate has a proactive, detail-oriented approach, 3+ years of EH&S experience, a related degree, and professional certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EH&S, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of EH&S experience.
  • Professional certification such as ASP or OHST.
  • Experience with multiple EH&S programs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Negative drug test result; background check satisfactory.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and refine EHS programs to ensure a safe, healthy work environment and regulatory compliance.
  • Own programs ensuring safety and environmental compliance and meet customer requirements.
  • Counsel all levels of management and employees on safety practices and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Respond to inquiries, questionnaires, surveys, and incidents.
  • Participate in internal audits and ISO 14001/45001 compliance activities.
  • Perform EHS review/approval as part of the MOC process.
  • Collaborate with design and other engineering teams on safety-related improvements.
  • Partner with site safety committee on hazard control and incident investigations.
  • Model SEL values and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Professional to support and continuously improve environmental, health, and safety programs at our expanding operations in Post Falls, Idaho. In this role, you will help ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, support audits and inspections, manage environmental programs, and partner with employees and leaders to promote a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace. As SEL continues to grow its footprint in the region, this position will play an important role in supporting both existing operations and the development of new facilities. The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Professional will collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, construction, and cross-functional teams to identify risks, investigate incidents, drive corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to help establish and strengthen EHS processes, systems, and culture within a growing site while contributing to the successful launch and ongoing operation of new facilities. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional who is passionate about workplace safety, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and building a strong foundation for future growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous refinement of SEL’s environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs that encourage a safe and healthy work environment and comply with federal, state, and local regulations; research regulations as needed.
  • Own programs that ensure safety and environmental compliance; maintain programs to fulfill on-going customer requirements or needs.
  • Counsel all levels of management and employee owners on safety management programs and practices and balance the needs of various stakeholders to understand problems and needs; participate in cross functional teams to create solutions within areas of expertise.
  • Respond to job related customer inquiries, questionnaires, surveys, requirements, issues, and any environmental incidents.
  • Participate in internal audits and compliance inspections and identifies actions necessary to meet regulatory and ISO 14001 and 45001 standard requirements.
  • Perform EH&S review/approval as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Participate in equipment safety design by working closely with more senior EH&S personnel and other engineering groups within the company.
  • Partner with site safety committee on active hazard control and accident prevention programs; facilitate incident investigation process, assist or lead in root cause investigations, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Model, teach and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a EH&S related field or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of EH&S related experience
  • Professional certification, such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), etc.
  • Experience with multiple EH&S programs
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team environment
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
  • Negative drug test result(s)
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Preferred Qualifications
  • EH&S experience in electronics manufacturing environment
  • ISO 45001 and/or 14001 internal auditor experience
Physical Requirements
  • Able to walk and stand for extended periods, climb stairs unassisted and lift and carry up to 20 lbs

Pay Range Data: $89,400 - $134,100 per year. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
