Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks an EHS Support Specialist to join the team in Nampa, Idaho. You will assist with Environmental Health & Safety programs, supporting incident management, risk assessment, waste handling, and industrial hygiene while learning from senior EHS professionals.

You will help maintain safety standards, support documentation, and communicate across internal teams to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Two years of relevant experience required.
  • Proficient with Windows and MS Office.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Complete EH&S processes per defined procedures under supervision.
  • Provide status updates to SEL staff and customers.
  • Learn and improve department processes and documentation.
  • Raise awareness of EH&S standards.
  • Collaborate on problem solving and process improvements.
  • Develop basic skills in incident management, risk assessment, and waste management.
  • Align with SEL Values and manufacturing principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking an EHS Support Specialist to join our team in Nampa, Idaho. This role provides foundational support for Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs and processes, helping ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace. Working under the guidance of experienced EHS professionals, you will assist with program administration, documentation, process execution, and communication while developing expertise in key EHS disciplines such as incident management, risk assessment, waste management, and industrial hygiene. As SEL continues to expand its operations in the region, this position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of both existing and developing facilities. The EHS Support Specialist will collaborate with internal teams to support EHS initiatives, promote awareness of safety and environmental standards, participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts, and help maintain a strong culture of safety. The ideal candidate is a motivated team player with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a desire to build a career in Environmental Health & Safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete EH&S processes in accordance with defined procedures under the direction of more experienced staff.
  • Provide status updates to SEL staff and customers. Communicates effectively with team and internal partners and customers.
  • Learn and follow department processes while communicating opportunities for improvement to documentation or work instructions.
  • Provide awareness of EH&S standards.
  • Represent team by participating in collaborative problem solving and process improvement efforts.
  • Develop basic proficiency in the activities required to support one EH&S discipline (e.g., risk assessment and incident management, waste management, industrial hygiene).
  • Learn and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Required Qualifications
  • Two years’ relevant experience
  • Able to efficiently operate Windows and MS Office
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years’ experience working with EH&S
  • Experience with materials management processes
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory standards
Physical Requirements
  • Lift, push, pull and maneuver up to 40 pounds frequently
  • Sit and stand for at least 8 hours
  • Vision correctable to 20/30 or better
  • Ability to differentiate color
  • Use of computer keyboard devicesReach, Bend, Twist

Pay Range

Pay Range Data $25.00 - 37.00 per hour. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
