Job summary

Heartland Food Products Group is seeking a Safety and Process Improvement Intern to support its Safety team at our Indianapolis facilities. The position offers hands-on exposure to environmental, health, and safety initiatives and cross‑functional engineering projects.

You will gain practical experience by assisting in hazard assessments, incident investigations, and the development of safety programs while collaborating with engineering, operations, quality, and maintenance teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
• Interest in safety compliance, engineering systems, manufacturing processes and food safety.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and self-motivation.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety regulations and cGMPs while delivering internship projects.
• Collaborate across departments to complete assignments.
• Develop, implement, and review EHS policies and programs; assist with hazard identification.
• Assist engineers with safety components in capital projects and risk assessments.
• Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis; track corrective actions.
