Valley Cabinet Inc. is looking for an Environmental, Health & Safety Manager!

What you will do:
The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental, health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees in the multi-location organization. This role focuses on identifying risks, enforcing compliance with OSHA, EPA, WDNR and other regulatory requirements, training staff, and promoting a safety-first culture throughout the organization. In addition, this role provides leadership, guidance, and assistance for employees in achieving outstanding safety and environmental performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program Development & Implementation
    • Develop and maintain environmental, health and safety policies, procedures, and training programs tailored to woodworking and countertop manufacturing environments.
    • Lead initiatives to foster a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
    • Monitor and analyze safety performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Oversee hazard communication, machine guarding, dust collection systems, PPE use, ergonomics, etc.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    1. Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, WDNR, EPA, and local safety regulations.
    2. OSHA: Maintain and submit necessary records, reports, logs and permits as required by law.
    • EPA: Coordinate environmental programming including reporting, analysis, toxic/hazardous materials control and
      • Work with trade and professional organizations to promote goals and objectives in the environmental, health and safety area that affects company business.
      • Conduct or direct testing of air quality and noise levels to verify compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations.
    • DOT: Manage compliance, training and coaching to drivers on the FMCSA, IRP, MCS-150, WDNR and DOT regulations that cover business.
      • Manage compliance with physical exams, random drug testing and licensing.
      • Maintain MVR files for employees who operate vehicles and FMCSA hours of service log books and regulations.
  • Inspections & Audits
    • Conduct regular facility environmental, health and safety inspections, including machinery, ventilation, and chemical storage areas.
    • Lead internal and external audits and respond to findings with corrective actions.
    • Incident Investigation & Reporting for OSHA and worker’s compensation purposes.
    • Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses; determine root causes; and implement corrective/preventive actions.
    • Maintain detailed records of all incidents and safety metrics.
  • Training & Education
    • Provide safety orientation and ongoing training to all employees, including lockout/tagout, forklift operation, fire safety, and hazardous material handling.
    • Develop and conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
    • Assist line and staff management to understand OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA compliance, inspections and citations.
    • Act as point of contact for addressing employees concerns regarding health and safety policies.
  • Emergency Preparedness
    • Develop and manage emergency response plans, fire drills, and evacuation procedures.
    • Coordinate with local emergency services as needed.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing safety role, preferably in wood products or similar environments.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), OSHA 30/OSHA 510 certification preferred.
  • General working knowledge of DOT, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication, training, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position including, but not be limited to the following:

  • Office environment – use of office equipment including computer, telephone, copier/printer.
  • Ability to sit at a computer for an extended period.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to wood dust, adhesives, and loud noise.
  • Must be able to walk the plant floor regularly, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to walk.
  • Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Moderate noise.
  • Verbal communication.
  • Continuous contact with co-workers and public.
