Job summary

General Tool Company is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager in Reading, OH. The role leads safety and environmental programs embedded in operations, partnering across Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality to build safety controls into processes from the start.

You will own OSHA compliance, industrial hygiene, and environmental permitting, while driving a culture of ownership through our Ownership For All program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressive safety experience in a heavy manufacturing environment with floor-level program ownership.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA General Industry regulations and experience managing regulatory inspections and audits.
• Working knowledge of core environmental regulations (RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act) and experience managing environmental permits and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and continuously improve the EHS management system and written programs.
• Ensure full compliance with OSHA standards and regulatory requirements; serve as primary contact during inspections and audits.
• Lead incident investigations using root-cause analysis; drive corrective actions to closure.
• Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities during installations and changes to identify and eliminate hazards.
• Conduct floor walks, job hazard analyses, and safety audits across all shifts; track corrective actions.
• Own the industrial hygiene program including noise, air, and chemical exposure monitoring.
• Manage workers’ compensation process in partnership with HR; coordinate return-to-work programs.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs and keep audit-ready records.
• Lead site emergency response planning and coordination with local services.
• Track safety metrics and report trends to leadership to drive risk reduction.
