EHS & Compliance Leader

Job summary

MROH in California seeks an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Director to lead EHS programs and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. You will oversee safety training, hazardous materials handling, incident investigations and emergency planning across the operation.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking and the ability to set clear expectations for supervisors while maintaining a safe, compliant workplace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety and/or Environmental Science, or an equivalent background providing knowledge of safety practices.
• Must be fluent in English; Spanish a plus.
• Minimum of six (6) years related experience; OR Occupational Safety & Health, Safety and/or Environmental Science AND at least 2 years related experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; working knowledge of ERP system.

Responsibilities

• Manages environmental, health and safety compliance programs to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.
• Directs inspection of work practices safety and hazards to ensure presence of fire protection equipment, safety equipment and first-aid supplies.
• Interfaces with government agencies such as OSHA, local DEP, and other regulatory bodies.
• Oversees proper handling of hazardous materials.
• Approves EHS training related to North State operations.
• Develops and updates workplace safety and environmental compliance rules and policies.
• Ensures proper sample collection of hazardous materials for analysis.
• Reviews accident reports for cause and prevention; investigates accidents as necessary.
• Orders suspension of activities posing safety threats.
• Maintains accident and injury records; updates emergency response plans and procedures.
• Posts annual OSHA 29 CFR 1904 reference.
• Provides inputs for annual budget using historic consumption and forecasted workload.
• Manages security oversight of the building and interfaces with external vendors.
• Ensures documentation of EHS inspections as required.
• Initiates personnel actions including PTO, pay changes, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence.
• Interviews and hires departmental personnel; provides training.
• Manages DOT/FAA Drug and Alcohol Safety Program; coordinates testing and records with third parties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
