Job summary

YMCA of Central Massachusetts is seeking a Preschool Teacher for the Boroughs Family Branch. You will lead a developmentally appropriate program, design daily lesson plans, supervise staff and children, and collaborate with families to promote YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements include DEEC/NAE/QRIS standards, age 18+, CPR/First Aid/Child Abuse Prevention certifications, and preferred ASL proficiency.

Qualifications

• Meets DEEC/NAEYC/QRIS standards.
• Must be 18+ years old.
• CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention certifications required.
• ASL proficiency preferred.
• Experience with children in developmental settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
• Supervises children, classroom, and staff; ensures safety and care.
• Conducts observations and evaluations of each child per schedule.
• Holds parent conferences and maintains positive communication with families; engage parents as volunteers.
• Maintains classroom, equipment, and program records; posts schedule, curriculum, and menus.
• Participates in family nights, staff meetings, and YMCA events.
• Additional duties as assigned to support YMCA mission and Child Care Department.

Under the supervision of the Supervising Lead Teacher, the Preschool Teacher at Boroughs Family Branch, provides direction for the classroom and implements curriculum which promotes social, cultural, educational, physical and emotional growth. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Under the supervision of the Supervising Lead Teacher, the Preschool Teacher at Boroughs Family Branch, provides direction for the classroom and implements curriculum which promotes social, cultural, educational, physical and emotional growth. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions

• Has knowledge of and maintains NAEYC and DEEC standards.
• Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
• Supervises the children, classroom, Teacher Assistants, and all activities. Ensures care and safety of children.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child according to the required schedule.
• Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.
• Maintains classroom and equipment.
• Maintains required program records including attendance, medical, and food service records.
• Posts schedule, curriculum, and menus according to regulation.
• Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff training, and YMCA special events.
• Additional duties as required and assigned by a supervisor to support the overall mission of the YMCA and to ensure the success of the Child Care Department.

Qualifications

• Meets educational and experience qualifications established by DEEC, NAEYC, and QRIS.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Preferred associate degree or evidence of enrollment in a college degree program.
• Must obtain, and keep current, certification in CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention.
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities and curriculum.
• Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is strongly preferred to support effective communication with all members of our community.

Job Type: Full-time (Non-Exempt)

Schedule: 40 hours weekly position. Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 5:30pm

Pay: $20.50-$25.13/hr (based on education and experience) with a full benefit package to include, generous PTO, access to facilities, Medical, Dental, Disability, Life, Vision, & Pet Insurance, and ability to participate 403B Retirement Savings Plan. Also, once fully vested, the YMCA will pay into a retirement account for you!

New hires for EEC teaching positions at the Boroughs Family Branch will get a $2,000 bonus which, $500 will be paid immediately upon hire, $500 upon completion of a 90-day review, and $1,000.00 at the 180-day mark.
