Job summary

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine seeks an Emergency Department Technician I to support our fast-paced ED team with patient care and essential administrative duties.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, and able to communicate clearly with patients and healthcare staff while maintaining confidentiality and safety throughout all tasks. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• CNA or EMT-B certification required at hire.
• BLS certification required.
• Strong computer, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing patients for examinations and treatments, and transport, admission and discharge.
• Obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and specimen collection; assist with other procedures.
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition to clinical staff.
• Maintain confidentiality and document observations and safety precautions.
• Register patients arriving by ambulance or police; secure valuables and assign rooms.
• Gather demographic, insurance and financial information from patients or representatives.
• Prepare and release patient records in accordance with confidentiality laws.
• Provide financial counseling including Charity Care and MaineCare options.
• Transcribe orders, answer calls, and complete filing and administrative duties.
• Maintain department supplies, cleanliness and readiness; assist with information for courts in behavioral health cases.
• Maintain required certifications and compliance training; support a safe, welcoming environment.
