Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education Ed Tech III to support students in the Functional Life Skills program at Moore Middle School in Portland, Maine.

Under the supervision of the Director of Specialized Programs and the school principal, the Ed Tech assists the Special Education Teacher by providing instructional and non-instructional support, data tracking, and collaboration with related services to help students gain independence.

Qualifications

• Approval as an Educational Technician III by the Maine Department of Education.
• Preference for candidates with a college degree including nine credit hours related to education such as behavior management or classroom strategies.
• At least one year of experience working with students in structured situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with personal care and daily living tasks.
• Support communication systems, including AAC devices.
• Assist with academic and functional instruction under teacher direction.
• Support students during community-based instruction and vocational activities.
• Facilitate social interactions and peer engagement.
• Maintain a safe, structured learning environment.
• Implement IEP-based instructional activities and data documentation.
• Collaborate with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, social workers).
