Job summary

Lifepoint Health's Highpoint - Sumner Regional Medical Center is seeking a Patient Access Representative to register Emergency Department patients, verify insurance, collect co-pays, and support bedside registration.

You will work in a fast-paced ED, rotating between front desk and bedside, cross-training for Sumner Regional Medical Center and Sumner Station, with a 7-on/7-off schedule to support an efficient patient experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong customer service and communication skills essential.
• Proficient computer skills; able to navigate multiple applications.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced ED environment.
• Detail-oriented with accurate data entry of patient/insurance info.
• Professional financial conversations with patients about payments.

Responsibilities

• Complete accurate and timely patient registration for Emergency Department visits and direct admissions.
• Enter patient demographics, insurance, billing information into the registration system.
• Perform bedside registration when needed in patient rooms.
• Welcome and check in patients arriving to the ED with a compassionate approach.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; capture all required information.
• Discuss patient estimates and collect co-pays, deductibles, and other liabilities at bedside.
• Explain required registration forms and documents to patients.
• Answer calls and assist patients, families, staff, and other departments.
• Support direct admissions, including bedside registrations on inpatient floors.
• Collaborate with nursing and other staff to ensure an efficient patient experience.
• Navigate multiple systems while managing priorities and patient privacy.
• Rotate between front-desk and bedside roles; cross-train for Sumner Regional and Sumner Station.
• Work in a fast-paced ED with exposure to clinical environments.
