Job summary

MaineHealth is seeking a Patient Access Associate I to join the 24/7 Emergency Department. This non-clinical role works alongside clinical teams, ensuring accurate patient identification, arrival, armband application, and admissions processing in a fast-paced environment.

The position includes bedside demographic capture, insurance verification, consent signatures, and coordination of transfers, with potential involvement in financial navigation and post-discharge follow-up.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in healthcare or customer service is preferred.
• Computer and data entry experience with Word, e-mail, and internet tools required.
• Ability to work accurately with electronic systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first contact in the Emergency Department for patient identification, arrival and armband application.
• Provide customer service and support for visitors and families.
• Record demographics and verify insurance at bedside, obtain signatures for consent and complete admissions.
• Coordinate financial navigation, copay collections, check-out and transfers/direct admits.
• Ensure accuracy of patient billing and follow-up five days post-discharge.
• Operate in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with mobile workstations.
• Maintain professional, caring interaction with patients and visitors.
