Job summary

Minnetonka Public Schools seeks a Paraprofessional/Early Childhood Special Ed Para at the Minnetonka Community Education Center. The role supports individualized instruction 1:1 or small groups, assists with self-care tasks, and helps implement behavior plans under supervision.

Workdays include Mon/Wed and Tue/Thu with total 25.5 hours weekly, starting as soon as possible. This position is not benefit eligible and offers a daytime schedule aligned to school hours.

Qualifications

  • Must meet highly qualified status per MDE on day 1 of employment.
  • Certification: Personal Care Assistant Training test completed as part of pre-employment.
  • Experience supporting early childhood students in a classroom setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior modification strategies including restitution and resiliency.
  • Demonstrated training/knowledge/application of CPI strategies, preferred.
  • Ability to be firm yet kind, caring but consistent, patient and vigilant.
  • Ability to accept direction from supervising teachers and work as a team.
  • Ability to write concise observational data, maintain a log, and record data.

Responsibilities

  • Support, modify, adjust and monitor individualized instruction in academic areas, functional skills, and/or behavior programs for special education students on a 1:1 or small group basis.
  • Assist students with self-care tasks of feeding, dressing, and toileting; lifting for repositioning and restraints as necessary; perform basic medical procedures under LSN direction.
  • Operate special education equipment (wheelchairs, augmentative devices) and supervise safe use.
  • Apply student management techniques to prevent or stop self-destructive behaviors.
  • Participate in IEP and school conferences as requested.
  • Write concise observational data, maintain a log, and monitor attendance daily.
  • Perform other duties of similar nature; participate in training on third party reimbursement as needed.
