Job summary

West Virginia is seeking candidates for a training role to learn the methods of processing benefit applications and determining eligibility for programs such as SNAP and Medicaid. You will manage a caseload while adapting to department software and strict policy requirements.

Interviewing clients and analyzing financial information are key components of training. Qualifications include a high school diploma and at least two years of direct client services or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Two years of direct client services experience (interviewing clients, evaluating data against standards).
• Two years of customer service/clerical experience acceptable alternative.
• Substitution: college coursework may substitute for experience at 1 year per 30 credit hours.

Job description

Under close supervision, perform in a training role learning the methods of processing benefit applications. Determine eligibility for, and manage, a caseload for economic assistance including, but not limited to SNAP, various Medicaid programs, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers. Learn to adapt to the use of department software to administer to a demanding caseload. Comprehend and adhere to complex policy regarding eligibility and issuance of benefits. Learn to conduct interviews with clients. Train how to analyze financial and social information. May retain repayment for economic assistance issued erroneously. Perform related work as required.

Training:

High school diploma or the equivalent.

Experience:

• Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience providing direct client services such as interviewing clients, customers or the public and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines
• *OR*
• two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience performing customer service, telemarketing, retail or clerical work.

Substitution:

Successful completion of coursework at a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience at the rate of one (1) year experience for every thirty (30) credit hours of education.

A valid driver's license may be required
