Job summary

West Virginia is seeking a trainee to learn methods of processing benefit applications and managing a caseload for economic assistance, including SNAP, Medicaid, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers.

Under close supervision, you will learn to use department software, understand complex eligibility policies, conduct client interviews, and train in financial and social information analysis. A one-year probationary period applies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of direct client services experience or two years in customer service, telemarketing, retail, or clerical work.
• Successful completion of coursework may substitute for the required experience at the rate of one year per 30 credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Learn to use department software to administer a demanding caseload.
• Determine eligibility for SNAP, Medicaid programs, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers.
• Learn to conduct interviews with clients.
• Train how to analyze financial and social information.
• Perform related work as required.
