Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support EC students and assist the assigned teacher. The role helps guide children toward IEP goals and provides access to general education as needed in a school setting.

This is an hourly, full-time position (07B) for 9 months with duties including data collection, supervision in classrooms and on bus routes, preparing materials, and supporting routines and safety under the teacher’s direction.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations relating to exceptional children.
• Ability to use classroom management and differentiation techniques.
• Ability to implement IEP goals and tracking progress.
• Strong communication and collaboration with teachers and staff.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Discuss duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Provide assistance with materials and documentation to support learning objectives.
• Assist with attendance procedures, record keeping, and organizing classroom spaces.
• Prepare lesson materials and bulletin board displays for assigned classrooms.
• Support bus, car, and van transportation duties as needed.
• Provide physical assistance to students as required and assist with therapies and mainstreaming classes.
