Job summary

Asheville City Schools seeks an EC Instructional Assistant to work closely with students with IEPs under the supervision of a licensed Special Education Teacher. The role provides physical, educational, and emotional support to enable full access to the school setting and reports to the classroom teacher.

The position requires assisting with daily living tasks, data collection, and use of assistive technology, ensuring confidentiality and collaboration with the EC team.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school with a preference for specialized training and a two- or four-year college degree (or 48 hours of college credit).
• Experience in education or acceptable alternatives may be found appropriate.
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk and lift up to 10 lbs as part of routine duties.

Responsibilities

• Carry out all physical care routines for students as indicated by Health Plans and IEPS.
• Assist students with academic tasks and implement teacher plans.
• Collect and record student data and provide instruction.
• Create and maintain classroom materials and assist with technology use.
• Set up and use assistive technology for school activities.
• Provide close supervision in all school settings.
• Assist in daily living activities as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and support EC Director and administrators.
